Fungi Postal Stamps Issued by Macedonian Post

The Macedonian Post issued four official postal stamps of Macedonian fungi as of 16th October 2013. The represented species have been selected by Professor Mitko Karadelev, the Macedonian Mycological Society President, while the photographs are courtesy of Matthias Theiss.

Establishing Fungi Checklist and Preliminary Red List and Proposing IFAs in Albania

In the course of the first three project months, field research was conducted and over 20 localities in Albania were visited. The collected fungal material from these spring forays has been entirelly processed, and the results have been entered in a fungi database created specifically for this project. In view of both the fungi database and project research so far, there is data on approximately 350 specimens, of which about 260 are different species - all new for Albania. Part of the project results were presented at the Third International Conference of Ecosystems, held in Tirana in June 2013. More on www.macfungi.webs.com/fungialbanici.htm.

Korab Mt Field Research Trip

A Macedonian Mycological Society team participated in a field research in Korab Mountain between 8th and 22nd July 2013. Korab Mt is part of Mavrovo National Park, and it is situated in the western part of the country, along the Macedonian-Albanian borderline. The annual educational and scientific field research activity was organised by Biology Students’ Research Society, which functions within the Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics in Skopje.
